Just a short drive off the Hawai'i Belt Road north of Hilo is Laupahoehoe Point Park. There was a villiage here in 1946 when a Tsunami came ashore killed two dozen people, mostly children who were drawn to the erratic tides just prior to the big wave. It was increadibly windy here on this day, and even though the wind was warm, the ocean was dark and the swells pretty awesome.
