About at the end of the well-maintained Johnston Canyon Trail, one can find a secondary trail which is rougher and much less travelled. This secondary trail takes about 1 hour (one way) and leads through a heavily-wooded area of Johnston Canyon. The canyon slowly widens until it turns into this beautiful valley with these pools of fresh spring water bubbling up from the ground. The water is so colorful from the ground minerals - hues of green, blue, yellow - that they were named "The Inkpots".
